A villa usually has a front door plus at least one other external door, so a smart lock request often turns into two or three doors in one visit. We assess each door on its own, because a front door and a garden door rarely share the same thickness, latch type or cutout.

Most problems we see come from a mismatch between the lock and the door. A smart lock bought online may be built for a different backset, door thickness or latch position than the one on your door. The lock then sits slightly off, the bolt does not throw cleanly, and the motor strains. Another common cause is a door that has dropped a little on its hinges, so the bolt rubs against the strike plate. A manual key can overcome that. A motorised bolt often cannot, and it drains the batteries trying. We check alignment before fitting and adjust the strike plate where needed.

Connectivity is the other usual fault. In a larger villa the router may be a long way from the front door, and a Wi-Fi lock that cannot hold a signal will keep dropping out of its app. If your lock needs a bridge or hub, tell us before the visit so we can test the signal at the door. Doors that take direct sun can also expand slightly and bind, which is why we test the door both before and after the lock goes in.

Access is simple for a villa, since we only need to reach the door being worked on and have an adult present to sign off at the end. Allow about 60 minutes per lock. If you rent, get your landlord's consent first. If you are unsure whether the community has requirements for contractor visits or external fittings, ask the owners association or building management before booking. Have the lock, its box, any supplied keys and your phone ready on the day.

The price is AED 250 as a flat fee for installing a lock you have supplied. Materials are quoted separately and agreed with you before we start, for example a longer spindle, a spacer plate or a replacement strike plate. If the door needs nothing extra, AED 250 is the whole cost. The work carries a 90 day warranty.

Before we leave, we operate the lock repeatedly with the door open and closed, and confirm the mechanical key override turns freely. If you want the old hardware back, we hand it over, and we leave the door fully secured.
