Dubai Production City (IMPZ) is a district of residential towers and offices, with a smaller number of townhouses, and most of the buildings date from 2012 to 2018. Many homes here are studios, one-bedrooms and two-bedroom apartments, lived in by people who want sensible running costs. Furniture usually arrives as flat-pack boxes, and the job is to get it built properly the first time so nobody pays for it twice.

Most problems come from rushing. Tall wardrobes and shelving units are often left free-standing, which is a tipping risk, and the walls in a tower are a mix of solid block and plasterboard partitions that each need a different fixing. Cam locks get over-tightened and split chipboard edges. Panels are fitted back to front because the drawings are small. A missing bag of screws is often found only when the bed is half built. Boxes also pile up in compact living rooms, so the order of work matters as much as the tools.

Access is usually simple but worth a call. In the towers, building management may ask for the lift to be booked or the front desk to be told that a tradesperson is coming, and the rules differ from one building to the next. Give us the tower and floor when you book and we will plan the arrival around it. In the townhouses the main difference is stairs, since bedroom furniture often has to be carried up before it is built. Most visits take about 90 minutes, so a weekday evening slot is realistic once you are home from work.

Pricing follows the size of the home and the number of items. A studio with one or two items is AED 180, and a 1BR with two or three items is AED 250. A 2BR apartment or townhouse with three to five items is AED 350. A 3BR apartment with five to seven items is AED 450, and a 3BR townhouse is AED 500. A 4BR townhouse with seven to nine items is AED 650, and a 5BR+ townhouse with nine or more items is AED 750. Extra materials such as heavier wall fixings are quoted separately, before any work starts.
